Troubleshooting

The scan aborts with a timeout

Cause: PHP execution time (max_execution_time) is set too low.

Solution: The plugin uses a staggered time budget and should work even with low timeouts (30–60 seconds). If the issue persists, contact your hosting provider and ask about the current max_execution_time setting.

The plugin does not appear in the backend after installation

Cause: Plugin was installed but not activated.

Solution: Navigate to Plugins → Installed Plugins and activate EcomSec Security Scan in the list.

Error: "Licence could not be verified"

Cause: The server cannot establish an outbound connection to EcomSec licence servers.

Solution: Check whether your hosting provider allows outbound HTTP connections. This is typically the case on shared hosting. If the issue persists, contact EcomSec Support.

The scan finds no issues, but the shop appears compromised

Note: The plugin detects known signatures and CVEs. New, unknown attack patterns may not be detected. If you have a concrete suspicion of compromise, we recommend a professional forensic analysis by the EcomSec Incident Response Team.
